The Hungry Birder

The Hungry Birder

Beginner/Intermediate - 3.5 Hours

This trip takes us on a similar route as The Birder, but with a stop at a secluded white sand beach to enjoy lunch, a swim, and some terrestrial exploration.

We begin with route and safety briefings on the dock, followed by some kayaking technique tuition which includes essential tips to help you get the most out of the trip. We focus on teaching our guests to kayak with the best possible technique through our comprehensive and concise ‘on dock / on water’ instruction session. Depending on the number of people in the group and their experience levels, this generally takes between half an hour to an hour before we set off on our adventure and greatly improves your ability to paddle on the ocean.

You will immediately put your new skills to the test as we paddle along the dramatic rocky cliff coastline of Le Phare Bleu Bay to reach the magnificent mangroves of Egmont Point. Here, you will learn about the unique mangrove ecology, wildlife, and ecosystems of Grenada. From here we round the point, cruising over a vibrant, turquoise shallow reef surrounded by corals and sponges while you enjoy the uplifting effect of the ocean.

The bay opens up before you to reveal Gary Island, an uninhabited islet bursting with wildlife; birds flutter between groves of cacti and mangrove branches, schools of juvenile fish dart in and out of mangrove roots, and the ebb and flow of the ocean creates a tranquil chorus.

Heading into the secluded white sand beach, lunch is laid out and you have the option to swim in the warm, shimmering sea or just relax with an ice cold drink. After leaving the beach we venture away from the coastline and you feel the excitement of paddling towards the horizon between Adam Island and Fort Jeudy. As you approach Adam Island from the east, the currents glide you along between its coast and the mainland, and we round the point between two dramatically opposite but equally beautiful habitats; a rocky cliff beside us and a turquoise reef below us.

We ride the current back to the serenity of Le Phare Bleu Marina where you can enjoy exploring the 120-year-old lightship and museum, lunch at Island Fever restaurant, a cold drink by the pool, or relaxing on the beach. The Marina showers, located just down the hall from Conservation Kayak, are also available to all of our guests.
